Couchtisch mit Schieferplatte und Messing Intarsie von Paul Kingma, 19...

A Paul Kingma coffee table in slate with brass inlay. It is signed by the designer and was made around the 1980s. This table has been gently cleaned while respecting the vintage patina. A piece signed by the sculptor and an example of his early work and passion for creating unique pieces influenced by the Brutalism. As early as the 1970s Paul Kingma designed furniture incorporating natural elements inspired by the earth. In the 1980s, Kingma incorporated other materials in relief like fossils, pebbles, copper and brass. Kingma once quoted ´´my stone tables resist the corruption of time, and supports the weight of life´´. His concept, demonstrated in this piece, considers the table as a sculpture where the artist plays with different materials. In Kingma’s words ´´a self-contained design that can be used as a table afterwards.´´ The oval top is made up of geometric slate pieces in a dark grey tone, diagonal brass bands, brass rings and vintage coins. The mosaic has exposed dark grout adding to the decorative design. The edges of the table are rounded and the sculptural plinth base is made up of two semi circles repeating the rounded shape of the top. The base is resin with a textured coating like the slate on the top. The table top can be unscrewed from the base if needed. The table is in very good vintage condition. The slate top has no marks or dents. The brass details have some vintage patina in line with age. The legs are in good condition with minor wear in line with age. Additional dimensions: Plinth base - Height: 41 cm, Width: 68 cm, Depth: 38 cm
